What to Expect

Most individuals with healthy teeth and gums experience no discomfort during the SpaWhite treatment. Tingling or slight gum sensitivity is normal and not harmful to your gums or enamel. Occasionally, particularly sensitive individuals may experience lip or gum discomfort. To prevent this, lightly coat the sensitive areas with petroleum jelly prior to treatment, being careful not to get any on your teeth.

A slight blanching (or whitening) of the gums is common and normal. This is a temporary reaction due to the antiseptic nature of hydrogen peroxide and is not harmful to your teeth or gums. Blanching usually disappears within two hours of the treatment.

Whitening Results

SpaWhite whitens your teeth by removing stains and does not “add” whitening to your teeth. Your teeth cannot get whiter then they were when your permanent teeth came in as a child. SpaWhite is primarily for natural teeth. If you have veneers, composite (white) fillings, implants or other synthetic tooth structures, SpaWhite will remove surface stains but their base color will remain as they were when installed. If your natural teeth are grayish in color, have multiple colorations, or are stained from drugs (like tetracycline or nicotine), your teeth may require multiple treatments to achieve satisfactory results.

After Care

For 12 hours following your SpaWhite treatment, you should avoid consuming anything that could stain a white shirt. This includes:

Berries	Candy	Coffee	Red Sauces
Black Tea	Chocolate	Dark Soda	Red Wine

You may continue to brush and floss as directed by your dentist. Your whitening results will last anywhere from a few months to a year, depending on your use of staining agents (such as coffee, nicotine, and alcohol), your age, general health and genetics. Using a professional maintenance product such as WhiteICE will prolong your results by preventing and continuing to remove stains.

Precautions & Contraindications

SpaWhite is not recommended for individuals under 14 years of age, those who are breastfeeding, or those in their third trimester of pregnancy. If you have tooth decay, excessive plaque or tarter buildup, significant enamel demineralization, periodontal (gum) disease, irritated or bleeding gums, gingivitis, recession or other gum disorder, you should not use SpaWhite until these conditions have been successfully resolved by a dentist.
